The challenge

TWiT.tv was on Drupal 7 (D7), a retired version of Drupal that had reached end of life and was no longer supported. The need was to migrate to more modern Drupal.

The solution

As the initial need was to migrate to a more modern version of Drupal, we began with getting the site on D9, eventually upgrading to D11 later via our support program. There was no design work required, as this was a “lift and shift” into a newer version.

First, we modernized the legacy D7 custom API by replacing bespoke endpoints with D10’s native REST API for standardized, secure, and maintainable integrations.

We improved API speed and reliability by tapping into Drupal 10’s advanced caching system, ensuring content stays fresh automatically while delivering faster load times.

Lastly, for an improved experience for content editors, we streamlined content management and improved the editorial user interface by consolidating and reducing D7 fields to only what’s truly necessary.

The result

While the visual look and feel may not have changed, the back-end upgrades have made a huge difference in both maintenance and performance. The client was also thrilled that we stayed within the budget. TWiT.tv also continues working with us in our long-term support program, where we recently completed an SEO audit.

“You’ve done a good job of staying in budget.”
