Riverview Health is an independent community-based health system in Indiana comprised of a full-service, 156-bed hospital in Noblesville, a 16-bed hospital in Westfield, as well as freestanding combined ER and urgent care facilities. More than 350 physicians in 35 medical specialties provide compassionate, patient-centered care to everyone in their community.

The challenge
Riverview Health faced an urgent need to modernize their website to better support growth, improve patient-provider connections, and compete with larger health systems entering their market.
Their outdated, underperforming site wasn’t mobile-friendly, lacked intuitive pathways for patients to find and book care, and didn’t reflect their evolving brand or expanding provider network. With a complex transition to a WebMD Drupal platform underway, they needed strategic guidance to balance out-of-the-box functionality with custom solutions tailored to their goals.
They sought a seamless collaboration between Kanopi and WebMD to avoid the communication breakdowns they’d experienced in past multi-vendor projects and ensure alignment across multiple internal interest holders, from physicians and staff to its marketing team and foundation.
The solution
Kanopi crafted a focused and strategic creative engagement that spanned four key phases: discovery, content strategy, user experience, and visual design.
We began with in-depth internal interest-holder workshops, analytics reviews, and competitive research to uncover insights and define core user needs, especially around connecting patients to providers.
Our content strategy delivered a robust map/gap analysis and page-level content recommendations aligned with SEO and conversion goals.
For user experience, we developed a streamlined sitemap, accessible personas, and journey maps to support patient-provider pathways, all while integrating feedback from internal interest holders.
Finally, we delivered modern, mobile-optimized visual designs that leveraged and re-skinned WebMD’s component library, ensuring consistency while elevating Riverview’s brand.
Throughout, we maintained tight collaboration with WebMD to align on functionality, reduce friction, and ensure the site is scalable and aligned with future growth.
